In the 14th century, the Médersa Ibn Youssef was a Koranic University. Today it is a majestic and labyrinthine monument to the historical memory in the heart of the Medina. The colours pink and ochre dominate the central patio, where a pool of clear water reflects the sky. The rest of the building is arranged around a centre of stucco-covered walls.
The exhibition offers an opportunity to revisit the various chambers of the Médersa Ibn Youssef, which used to be students' rooms. It is a building that is at once lost in time and now re-occupied by works which are subtle, floating and seemingly suspended by the very issues they address. Via these works, mostly created specifically for the exhibition, the cells recover their former splendour offering a collective meditation through the work of 18 artists from five continents:

Marco Bagnoli, Alighiero e Boetti, Farid Belkahia, Joe Ben, Silvie Defraoui, El Sy, Shirazeh Houshiary, Ilya Kabakov, Kacimi, Anish Kapoor, Rachid Koraichi, Sol LeWitt, Andrea Marescalchi, Maria Carmen Perlingeiro, Miguel Angel Rios, Sarkis, Pat Steir, Chen Zhen

In addition, there are nine poets and seven musicians from 12 nations whose works are offered for private or group consumption. Whether in or from the individual cells, their verses and musical instruments provide an exceptional counterpoint to the entire event and the artworks in an atmosphere of pantheist and tacit complicities and latencies.
